About

Hello and welcome to my creative world! My name is Rebecca and I am a born and bred Melbourne Westie, and a self-taught designer with a love for the bespoke and handmade, and the designer / maker / owner of The Paper & Wood Co.

I began the business back in 2013, almost by accident. I was working at my family’s wholesale and retail business in Williamstown, and we were short on greeting cards for the season, so I tried my hand a whipping a few together. After they were a huge success I took a leap of faith and exhibited a small range at a retail trade fair, which was also received incredibly well. Within 6 months I had bought my own laser and designed an entire range of greeting cards for all occasions, and was wholesaling them all over Australia.

I then branched out into the Melbourne market scene, popping up in places like the Rose St Artist’s Market, Queen Vic Night Market, Arts Centre Sunday Market, Coburg Night Market, the Design Exchange in Ballarat, Moonlit Market in Bendigo, and a bunch more that no longer exist.

In July of 2019 I opened my beautiful little container shop at Queen Vic Market in String Bean Alley. Below is a photo of me looking cheesy and awkward in-store. I made the difficult decision to close the doors at the beginning of 2021, after the lockdowns in Melbourne and the uncertainty of the months ahead put a strain on me and the business.

I have always been a creative person and have always loved the making process. I’m hoping to stretch my creative wings even further in the coming years and see where the wind takes me.

I am always open to collaborating and trying new things, so if you have a project in mind, are interested in a custom design or are a fellow maker and need something laser cut or designed for your business, feel free to get in touch.
